Miami Manatees sign Mike Murray, Ron Baker
Miami Manatees Press ReleaseMiami, Fla - Miami Manatees Coach Zac Boyer today announced the signings of forwards Ron Baker and Mike Murray.
Murray, 25, spent four years playing at Dartmouth from 1999-2000 to 2002-2003. Murray scored 23 goals and 71 points, while accumulating 128 penalty minutes in 125 games. Hailing from Dover Massachusetts, Murray made his professional debut this season, playing seven games in the ECHL and in 10 games with the Richmond Riverdogs of the UHL.
"Mike Murray was highly recommended to me by the coach of the Augusta Lynx Stan Drulia. He is a smart, solid player who should help our team out in several areas." Boyer said.
Baker, 27, comes to the Manatees after playing last season with the UHL Fort Wayne Komets. In 33 games, Baker had one goal, five points and 17 penalty minutes. From 1998-1999 to 2000-2001, Baker played for the University of Alabama-Huntsville of the Division 1 CHA conference. Baker played in 91 games, scoring 33 goals and 79 points with 142 penalty minutes.
"Miami is a very good opportunity for me, and this is a very competitive team that is one of the top teams in the league. It is a bonus for me that I also know a couple of the guys down here as well." Baker said.
"Ron Baker was referred to me by a friend of mine in Ft. Wayne." Boyer said. "He is a really fast player that can play both forward and defense. He is a really good utility player to have, and I am excited to have these two guys on the team."
Boyer also announced that center Ryan Kiley and JF Picard have been suspended from the team.
The Miami Manatees face off against the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, and Orlando Seals in the WHA2's inaugural season. All games are broadcast on www.irn.fm.
