We Kids all know that having a pet is good for us. But some of my friends have had trouble getting their parents to understand they need a pet. When I told my Auntie about it, she told me maybe I should do some research and find some good reasons for kids having pets. I did some searches on the internet and WOW there are good reasons, besides us just wanting them.
If your parents won’t get you a pet and you really want one, here is some things to tell them.
Kids who own dogs score higher on tests of poularity, social skills, and compassion for others. We kids need to know that we are being loved unconditionally and consistently. We kids find this in dogs and we are more comfortable sharing feelings with our pets. We kids who own pets get along better with our friends in school. We can talk to our pets and they make us feel better. They just lick us and wag their tails!
Having a pet teaches us responsibility. When we learn to care for an animal, and treat it kindly and patiently it teaches us to treat people the same way.
We also learn about birth, illnesses, accidents, death, and grieving when we lose a pet. They teach us respect for other living things.
Okay, if your parents still won’t get you a pet then you need to click on the following links. They explain it better than I do. Good Luck and Happy Tails to You!
