The Pledge of Allegiance To Our Flag

I am proud to be an American. On July 4th every year we celebrate our freedom. We have fireworks that are so pretty. Families get together and eat bar-b-q, watermelon, and ice cream and we have a really good time. We are very proud to be free. A lot of kids in other countries aren’t free, and that is so sad.

I believe in God and I love him very much. There are some people in America that don’t believe in God, and that is so sad too. I feel very sorry for those people and I think it must make God very sad too.

The people that don’t believe in God don’t teach their children about God and that is sad and unfair. It is unfair they don’t give their children the freedom to choose, if they don’t know about God they can’t make their own choice. I think maybe these people don’t believe in freedom, they don’t give their children freedom to choose for themselves. I feel so sorry for those children.

I didn’t really know what the words to the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag meant until the people that don’t believe in God wanted to take out the words “Under God” out of the Pledge of Allegiance. I understand it now and I want to share it with you just in case you don’t know yet.

A man named Red Skelton who was a very famous comedian when my Great Grandma was younger, had a really good teacher in school who taught him what the words mean. This is how his teacher explained it to him.

I Me. An individual. A committee of one.
PLEDGE Dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self-pity.
ALLEGIANCE Allegiance My love, and my devotion.
TO THE FLAG to the flag Our standard, Old Glory. A symbol of freedom. Wherever she waves, there's respect, because your loyalty has given her dignity that shouts, "Freedom is everybody's job."
OF THE UNITED of the United That means that we have all come together
STATES States Individual communities that have united into 50 great states. Fifty individual communities with pride, dignity, and purpose. All divided by imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that's love for country.
OF AMERICA of America, That wilderness continent which was tamed by our courageous forefathers, yet which remains to be protected for our children's children's children
AND TO THE REPUBLIC and to the Republic A state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. That government is the people, and it's from the people to the eaders, not from the leaders to the people.
FOR WHICH IT STANDS for which it stands; Our flag is the symbol of that Republic.
ONE NATION one nation An entity which is more than the sum of its 50 member states. So Blessed by God.
UNDER GOD under God, Supreme Being, the source of all power, life, light, truth, justice, and love.
INDIVISIBLE indivisible, Incapable of being divided.
WITH LIBERTY with liberty Freedom. The right or power to live one's own life without threat or fear of some sort of retaliation
AND JUSTICE and justice The principle or quality of dealing fairly with others.
FOR ALL for all. Everybody. Each and every citizen of this country is entitled to liberty and justice. Which means that it is just as much your country as it is mine.

Mr. Skelton said this too:

Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country and two words have been added to the pledge of Allegiance...
UNDER GOD
Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer and that would be eliminated from schools too?

God Bless America!
