|welcome to Glenmorangie, my own little corner of space and time. I have made this site for other wanderers, like myself, dissatisfied with the modern world, and longing to find something new, something different.
For me, this "something different'' is an interest in faeries, and this site is aiming to tell others about something that has long fascinated me.
I have mostly begged and borrowed (not stolen!) information and pictures from other sites, and I am very grateful to the owners for letting me use them. I have tried to link to all the sites I have used, and any other good ones that I haven't, but if I have missed any out, please let me know so I can add them.
|the word 'fairy' has been derived from 3 main sources;
fairy comes from faerie (French)
faerie comes from fa'ae (Gallic)
fa'ae comes from fata (Latin)
The dictionary definition of a faerie is 'an imaginary small being with magical powers.'
People believe that faeries are imaginary because they have grown up being told they do not exist, that they are just a 'fairy story'. Most people never question this, and spend their lives thinking that these creatures do not exist. Because of this, they do not realise that in destroying forests, they are slowly killing off the faeries, and leaving them with nowhere to live.
Now, faeries are extremely difficult to spot, and only a true believer will see them, and only then with a great deal of patience.
|Through the house give glittering light,
By the dead and drowsy fire,
Ev'ry elf and fairy sprite,
Hop as light as bird from briar;
Hand in hand with fairy grace,
We will sing and bless this place,
Now until the break of day,
Through this house each fairy stray.
William Shakespear, 'A Midsummer Nights Dream'
