About Misty-Blue

After the children's childhood Collies had passed on, we decided that the house was far too empty.  We were given the advice from a longstanding Collie breeder, that "it costs just as much to feed a pretty dog", and such was the beginnings of a search that led us to the acquisition of "Misty" (a tri-colored female), and "Blue" (a blue merle male).  Although we do not have any of their progeny, their spirit lives on in our kennel name; "Misty-Blue".  From one of "Misty" and "Blue's" puppies, co-owned with my daughter (Luv Echo), we were introduced into the world of dog showing in 1987.  But, it was my son's hyperactive lab that helped us find our way to natural dog food and homeopathic alternatives.  This unusual combination taught us lessons of the importance of genetic health, good nutrition, and proper socialization and training.

Today, Misty-Blue has expanded on the horizon's of some of the leading Collie families in the country, while still utilizing our early lessons of sound genetics and natural health.  All of our Collies are health tested (eye checks, hip x-rays, and thyroid profiles), raised on a natural dog food, and get lots of TLC to assist them in reaching their full potential.   We feel a combination of veterinary and homeopathic medicine obtains a compromise that will not overload their systems with chemicals.  Collies crave attention, an element of their care that we feel is just as important as our good food and exercise.

Our puppies are raised in the house to ensure constant supervision, and to expose them to human handling, and external noises.  We watch the developing personalities closely in order to later assist prospective puppy buyers in selecting the puppy best suited for their family.   All puppies receive at least 2 sets of vaccinations along with an eye check before embarking on their journey to their new home.  We assist in early housebreaking through the use of a "poddy box" (inside of the puppy kennel run), and a dog door that leads to a puppy yard once the puppies are old enough to move out of the house.   We also work on nail trimming, brushing, ear bracing, lead training, and table training to assist in making them better adjusted pets.  Is all this work worth the effort?  We believe so as evidenced by the families that write to us of their many joys found in their "Misty-Blue Collie".
