[ In the hospital ]
Rita : A quarter of a million bucks. I know where it is and where to get
it. Nothing much to stop me now, can you imagine it ? Two Hundred And Fifty
Thousand dollars.
Joan : You still want to test that theory ? A Hundred Thousand will do me nicely, Let's do the job ?
[ In Rita's flat ]
Alice : Want to be alone with the freak do ya ? Or do you call her Joanie
now ?
Rita: Hey what is this ?
Alice : You tell me ? I've just seen you Rit. One minute you're telling us to get her, the next minute you're chatting her up.
Rita : So maybe i've got my reasons.
Alice : What are they ? What's going on ?
Rita : Sorry Lurch, I just can't tell you mate, you're gonna have to trust me.
Alice : Mate ! That's a joke.
Rita : If you are going to carry on like this ?
Alice : All right i'm going and while i'm at it i'll see a screw about shifting back to my dorm.
Rita : Maybe you better, hell who needs it, go on rack off.
[ The outside fence ]
Joan : [ cuts a hole in the fence ] Through here, there's a white minerva
down to your left. Remember everything we
talked about, right well get a move on.
Rita : Yeah.
[ Rita goes through the hole in the fence and runs off down the street.
]
[ Rita drives along the street in a white car, she passes 2 policemen on
foot. ]
[ Joan patrols the corridor, looks at her watch and smiles. ]
[ Rita scales the fence surrounding the building, kneels down and takes out
something from her bag. ]
Joyce : Yes Bob, all's quiet on the western front as they say in the classics,
oh yes she's pretty quiet too for a change.
Joan : Quick press the alarm bell, Rita Conners has escaped.
Joyce : Oh Bob.
Joan : I said press the alarm you useless idiot.
[ Alarm Bell Rings. ]
Joan : Ring the governor if you think you can handle it, i'll be out in the grounds.
Joyce : Well there's no need to be rude, it's not my fault she escaped.
[ Rita scales the wall of the building using climbing equipment, she forces a trapdoor open by using a crow bar, the alarm goes off. Rita lowers herself into the building carrying a torch. She opens the draw, finds the combination and unlocks the safe. She puts the money into a bag and as she makes her escape the police arrive and arrest her. ]
Police radio : Are you aware of the search going on for the offenders from
our earlier jump ?
Policeman : Bull, that's absolute bull. Now look i'm warning you, where not talking about a simple break and enter. There's nearly a quarter of a million dollars in that safe and we're gonna get it all so you might as well start giving us the right answers because we're not going till you do.
Rita : I've already told it to you straight, I can't do more than that.
Policeman: Then tell it again ?
Rita : I got in.
Policeman : How did you get in ?
Rita : Up a rope ladder and through the manhole in the roof. I got the money.
Policeman : Who told you where the safe was ?
Rita : Nobody had to, I knew.
Policeman : Know the combination as well did ya ?
Rita : I knew where to look for it.
Policeman : How ?
Rita : I told you, I cased the joint ages ago.
Policeman : Then why didn't you pull the job then ?
Rita : Cos i knew I couldn't get away with it.
Policeman : You were right, you just put 10 years on your sentence.
Rita : I got the money though, I smashed the window and threw it out to my mate. I don't know where it is.
Joan : Inspector ?
Policeman 2 : You're a bikey, I see you rode with the conquerors ?
Rita : Yeah and proud too, don't you go giving them a hard time. I hung up my helmet a long time ago and they're clean.
Policeman : All right Conners, We found an abandoned car in the vicinity. We are checking for fingerprints and we're also checking on all your associates past and present.
Rita : Check the conquerors out with Dan Malcolm the, he's the shortcut to the big fella.
Policeman: Don't worry we will.
Rita : It's you're time if you want to waste it.
Policeman 2 : I see here that you had a visitor a few days ago, an Ida brown ?
Rita : Gees, Aunty Ida she's eighty bloody four, mind you a few years ago.
[ Rita collapses ]
Joan : Conners ? Get sister and fetch her straight away.
Policeman : I guess we are not going to get much more out of her tonight.
[ Police car drives off after the policeman have a laugh and a joke. ]
Merle : Go away, go away and stay away.
Lisa : Yeah.
Kath : All right girls they're gone now.
Merle : Me head hurts Kath, they've been waking me up all night and now me head hurts real bad.
Kath : Go back to bed Merle, it will be morning soon.
Merle : Morning, I haven't even been asleep yet.
Alice : Kath's right Merle, sounds like the cops have called it a night ?
Lisa : That's why they made such a bloody din about it.
Merle : That's what I want to know.
Alice : Gees, when they came back I thought they'd copped the poor bugger who escaped.
Lisa : Me too, now I dunno.
Kath : Now we're better off trying to get some sleep, right ?
Lisa: Right.
Everyone : Night, night.
Merle : Bet ya's all they come back.
Everyone : ( Shouts at Merle )
[ Joan visits Rita in the hospital wing. ]
Joan : Conners Wake up ? Common wake up ? Conners will ya here me, you've
got to wake up ?
Rita : ( mumbles. )
Joan : Sorry to wake you but I have to know, Is it safe ? Did you hide it all right ?
Rita : Yes it's safe, but I just...
Joan : Shhhhh, go back to sleep, you done well, i'll see you in the morning.
Rita : Nice of you to come and see how I was.
[ Governor's office ]
Anne : Come in ?
Doctor : Morning.
Anne : Morning, doctor.
Doctor : Have you seen Conners this morning ?
Anne : Yes, as soon as I came in, she's not looking to good. Is she ?
Doctor : No, i'm afraid she's not in very good shape at all. Her white cell count is far too high again. I've ordered a blood transfusion but we'll just have to wait and see.
Anne : Is there any immediate danger ?
Doctor : Well that depends entirely on the result of the ............
Policeman : Morning, they tell me in reception that Conners is still in the infirmary ?
Anne : Well where did you expect her to be ?
Police : The interview room of course, we still haven't found the money. We're going to have to keep at it till she breaks. She knows where it is all right.
Anne : I'm sorry Inspector Thorne that's just not possible.
Policeman : Look if she cannot make it to the interview room, the infirmary will have to do. If you can get an officer to show us the way ?
Doctor : Excuse me, there is no way. I will not allow my patient to be disturbed this morning. Her condition is critical.
Anne : Gentleman, this is Doctor Lung. Rita Conners is his patient.
Policeman : I see, well her condition may be critical but so is mine. She's knocked off nearly quarter of a million bucks or hadn't you heard.
Doctor : My only concern is her health, last night's exertion very nearly proved fatal. She's very weak.
Policeman : Wait a minute doctor, she chose to go over the wall last night and commit a felony. Nothing to do with me, now if she carcs it, it's still nothing to do with me.
Anne : Gentleman please.
Policeman : I've been working all night on a lead and i'm not prepared to let it go cold.
Anne : What sort of lead ?
Policeman : Her's were not the only set of prints on that abandoned car we found. I'm still checking them out but i've got to hit her with that information and soon.
Doctor : Governor, I insist that she....
Anne : Please Doctor, I understand the situation, now if you'd mind leaving us i've something to explain to my colleagues in the police force.
Doctor : Very well.
Anne : Would you like to sit down please ?
[ In the corridor. ]
Alice : Mr Jackson, where's Rita, i've been calling to her but she doesn't
answer me.
Lisa : She's not sick is she ?
Alice : Rita, where is she ? She's all right isn't she ?
Kath : You'll have to tell us now please ?
Mr Jackson : Yes all right, i'll tell you, just be quiet, Mrs Renyolds wanted me to tell you at Breakfast, but as you're all so worried.
Alice : What is it ?
Mr Jackson : Last night Rita Conners escaped from custody, broke into a finance company and robbed them.
All the women : What ?
Mr Jackson : She's been apprehended and returned to Wentworth.
Kath : In her condition, where did she get the strength ?
Mr Jackson : All right, that's enough. Now get to your showers on the double.
Alice : Where is she now ? Mr Jackson.
Kath : She can't be in solitary surely ?
Mr Jackson : By rights she should be in the lock up, but she's in the infirmary.
[ Reception. ]
Policeman : All right Mrs Renyolds, we'll be in touch.
Anne : Of course, i'll call you.
Policeman : You know you're really surprised me this morning, i've always known you're a pretty determined character but you're more than that, you're a gutsy lady.
Anne : Thank you Inspector Thorne, i'll take that as a compliment.
Policeman : See ya.
Policeman : Bye.
Anne : Good morning Mr Hudson, I thought we'd be seeing you this morning.
Mr Hudson : Life's obviously never dull around here, is it ?
Anne : I'm afraid not and I feel very concerned and responsible over any embarrassment you might have felt over last nights.......
Mr Hudson : Debacle.
Anne : That's one way of putting it I suppose.
Mr Hudson : When I took over responsibility for the department of corrective services, I expected the going to be tough, but now it's getting ridiculous.
Anne : If you'd like to come through to my office, i'll give you a full report.
Mr Hudson : I'm afraid the new reforms I was going to push through for you are going to have to be put on the back burner for a while, not to mention the one's already in operation.
[ Infirmary. ]
Joan : I'm off duty in a minute, anything I can get for you ?
Rita : There's one thing you've got to get and you know what that is ?
Joan : I have to be very sure before I make my move otherwise I could blow it for both of us.
Rita : Everything's okay, why don't you trust me ?
Joan : Are you sure you didn't say anything to the police that might give it away ?
Rita : What's a matter with you ? you were there the whole time.
Joan : Yeah, not when they picked you up. Did you say anything in the heat of the moment that might give them a clue about us ?
Rita : No i didn't, everything's cool.
Joan : They didn't seem to be buying you're story about the accomplice last night.
Rita : Oh well, they haven't come back so they must have mus'n't they.
Joan : Yeah, that's true, I just don't think I should rush it.
Rita : Like a Harley with a dirty carby, stop start, stop start. You get yourself in there now otherwise some cleaner might decide to spring clean the toilets and you never know what they might find. You've got to trust me Ferguson.
Joan : I do.
[ Joan leaves the prison and walks towards the finance company before stopping
outside. ]
Man : After you.
Joan : No thanks, it's all right.
[ Joan leaves without going inside. ]
[ Recreation room. ]
Lisa : How ya going ?
Teacher : Hi ya girls, is it that time already ?
Merle : Go away, go away, cos Tom's trying to teach me something.
Teacher : Don't worry Merle, there's always tomorrow.
Lisa : What ya doing Merle ?
Merle : I'm making Rit a card. Do ya wanna look ?
Lisa : Yeah, hey that's not bad, better than what I can do.
Teacher : Than what i can do.
Lisa : Wa ?
Teacher : What is wa ?
Lisa : It sounds bloody stupid if you keep on saying it.
Merle : Don't worry Lisa, he's just trying to trick ya.
Teacher : Never mind, we'll talk about it in class this afternoon. You're a bit quiet in class today Alice, is everything okay?
Alice : Yeah, I suppose. I was just thinking about Harry.
Teacher : Yeah, he's a good bloke. Is he from the country too ?
Alice : Yeah, born and bread, just like me.
Teacher : You're halfway there already aren't ya.
Alice : Yeah, I reckon. Are you from the country to ?
Teacher : No such look, i'm a city kid. I spent allot of holidays in the bush though. Those bush kids certainly taught me a thing or two.
Alice : Yeah, what ?
Teacher : I first learned to ride a bike in the bush, the hard way. I landed in more saltbush than you've ever seen in your life, tough stuff.
Alice : We never had any saltbush round where we were.
Lisa : Relax, you're dragging the chain a little bit, aren't you ?
Alice : Sorry.
Teacher : Oh sorry Lisa, that's my fault. I'll give you a hand. Did Alice see Rita this morning ?
Lisa : Yeah, she's not too good, but better than you'd expect under the circs.
Teacher : What ?
Lisa : Tom, don't start that again.
Alice : Do you know it's Rits birthday tomorrow ?
Kath : No, Is it ?
Alice : Tom just told me.
Merle : Ah beauty, this can be a birthday card. Just like the one's in the shop. Oh I hope she's not 21 though, cos they've all got keys on them and mine hasn't got a key on it. Hey, hey everyone.
Kath : How old is Rita ?
Alice : I dunno, she's my best mate and I don't even know how old she is. It might be her last birthday, I don't think I can bear it.
Kath : I know but you will for Rita's sake, won't you ?
Merle : Hey Kath, i'm going to ask Mr Pringle because he might even be able to get her a birthday cake.
Kath : Al all right, I know how you all feel and I feel exactly the same way. But were not going to help Rita if we all mope around the place feeling sorry for her. And we won't be helping ourselves either. If we really care about Rita we'll try and make this birthday the happiest day of .......The happiest day she's ever had inside Wentworth.
Alice : Kath's right, I nearly drove her mad when I first found out.
Lisa : Makes sense, let's all have a ball, eh ?
Lisa : How we gonna do it Kath ?
Kath : First i'll go and see Mrs Renyolds this afternoon, She'll want to be with us on her birthday.
Alice : But she's real weak Kath
Kath : Well there's got to a wheelchair somewhere in this place ?
Lisa : Yeah they have a few.
Kath : So she's got wheels to get to the party in.
Alice : Not the sort of wheels she really likes.
Kath : Alice !!!
Alice : Sorry Kath, hey Tom's into bikes, maybe he can get his hands on a Harley ?
[ Infirmary ]
Rita : Have a good day ?
Joan : No, not really.
Rita : What do you mean ?
Joan : Well I went there.
Rita : And ?
Joan : There was allot of activity, it didn't seem the right time.
Rita : You chickened out.
Joan : I was being cautious.
Rita : Bull, what do I have to do, get out of here and finish the job myself ?
Joan : Just keep your voice down, i'll get it when the time is right.
Rita : You wouldn't be doing the dirty on me would ya, I could always arrange for someone more reliable to collect.
Joan : I'll collect in my own time........... What's she doing here ?
Alice : I'm allowed to see Rit, Mrs Renyolds said so...........................G'day, How are you ? Feeling a bit better ?
Rita : Lurch, What did i do to deserve this twice in one day ?
Alice : Piece of cake, I've got Renyo wrapped round my little finger, no kidding we had a great little talk after tea. I said, " Mrs Renyolds, what Rit needs is to be with her mates. Now i know she's got to rest up at the moment, but i'm sure you can think of a way to get her down here, just for one rec anyway, see Lisa told me they got a wheelchair here." " Well Jenkins, " she said. " We might just be able to arrange that."
Rita : Oh Lurch, and you told me you were no good with words.
Alice : You must have taught me, how you feeling anyway ?
Rita : Allot better now.
Alice : You know you told me that there was 3 things that you had .......... that you still wanted to do, last nights job was one of them wasn't it ?
Rita : You're getting cleverer by the minute aren't ya ?
Alice : I reckon I know what another one is.
Rita : Yeah.
Alice : But i'm not telling.
Rita : What is this a guessing competition where no-one gets the answer ?
Alice : Not yet anyway ?
[ Garden ]
Alice : No-one.
Rita : Are you sure ?
Alice : No i'm lying to ya, C block's out there having a barbie and D block is having choir practice, of course i'm sure.
Rita : Gees, you're beautiful when you get angry, Harry ever tell you that ?
Alice : He's never seen me when i'm angry because he doesn't carry on like a dil and make me angry.
Rita : Quit ragging will ya ?
Alice : Well stop being so hard to get on with.
Rita : I just don't want anyone to see me like this all right !!!
Alice : why not ? Gees Rit you're sick and if you're best mate can't see ya when you're sick you might as well just pack it in......................... Oh, look i'm gonna go and get someone else to stay with you.
Rita : I don't want anyone else.
Alice : But everytime I open my mouth I put my foot in it.
Rita : So what's new, bucket mouth Jenkins strikes again.
Alice : Com'on i'm not that bad.
Rita : Wanna bet ? .......... Now quit yelling and tell mew what i'm out here for ?
Alice : ( Whistles ) I thought you might have wanted some fresh air ?
[ A Harley Davidson parks up ]
Rita : It's a Harley, it's a Harley.
Tom : Do you want a ride ? Looks like you were right Alice.
Rita : Ooh Mister.
Alice : I told you yesterday I knew what you wanted.
Rita : A smart bugger aren't ya.
Alice: Sort of think of it as a birthday present, reckon you can hold on ? And don't go doing any wheelies eh ?
Tom : I'll have her delivered back safe and sound, if my name isn't Tom Wilkins.
Alice : Right now you're name isn't Tom wilkins, It's Slasher.
[ Tom and Rita drive off on the Harley ]
Anne : I've just had word from the department, Do you think we could take some good news ?
Meg : From the department ?
Anne : Well actually from the premiers office, it seems our Mr Dwyer threatened to resign if Mr Hudson presented his report to the premier.
Meg : Oh the miserable ........
Anne : Bastard is the word i'd use, it felt quite good too, I think i might use it more often.
Meg : Well , What happened ?
Anne : Well, not only did Hudson ignore the threat and present my report, but the premier accepted it.
Meg : The premier accepted it ?
Anne : We get our reforms Meg.
Meg : And Dwyer ?
Anne : Too quote Hudson, " They'll be a painless reshuffle and Dwyer will find himself sitting on the back benches."
Meg : Good, oh good.
Anne : It is isn't it, as soon as i found out I came looking for you so we could celebrate.
[ Rita goes past on the back of a Harley. ]
Anne : Oh, thank god for Tom Wilkins. I dunno i've never seen anybody with this before.
Meg : She's so sick.
Anne : She's dying. Why stop her from living, besides it's her birthday.
[ Recreation Room ]
[ All the women sing happy birthday to Rita ]
Merle : And now we've all got to give 3 cheers for Rita, hooray, hooray.
Kath : No Merle. You don't say that, we do.
Lisa : Yeah, you say hip hip.
Merle : Oh, i forgot, i'll do it again, 3 cheers for Rita. Hip hip ( hooray ), Hip hip ( hooray ), How many's that ?
Everyone : Two.
Merle : Hip hip ( hooray).
[ They all blow the candles out on the cake ]
Merle : We all got something for you but this is your birthday card, I hope you like it cos i did it myself.
Kath : Oh come on Merle. Tom helped you too.
Merle : Oh yeah, he gave me the cardboard and stuff but he doesn't know much about birthday cards.
Alice : What made you think that ?
Merle : He wouldn't let me write many happy returns on it and you always write that on birthday cards don't ya ?
Rita : Yeah well this beats it by a mile Merle, from all of us here we'd just like to say you're a real good mate so have a nice day.
Merle : Yeah and all the stuff under there is where everyone wrote their name.
Lisa : Yeah that dirty one's Brumby's.
Kath : Rit , you're presents are on the pool table.
Rita : Well, what are you waiting for ? Happy birthday to me, Hey.
[ Rita collapses into her chair ]
Rita : It's time we had a talk ladies.
Alice : No way, you're going back to the dorm.
Rita : Yeah as soon as i've had a rest Lurch, I promise.I'm sorry to tell you this girls but you're top dog is tossing the job in.......I know I know, but the fact is i couldn't go round with Aunty Ida if you paid me, i couldn't hit the road if i fell of my bike, you know i couldn't do it. So let's stop pretending and face the facts. You need a new top tog, has anyone got any ideas ?
Alice : Looks like you'll have to pick one for us Rit.
Rita : I already have but you're gonna have to vote for her, Kath Maxwell.
Brumby : Maxwell, you got to be kidding........you've got a short memory.
Lisa : Hang on a minute......Why Rit ?
Alice : Yeah, why ?
Rita : Cos i've been watching her.
Brumby : Yeah, so have I, she'll be ripping us off, left, right and centre.
Merle : She won't will ya not Kath, you shouldn't say that, she's a real nice friend.
[ The women argue ]
Mr Adams : Jenkins, the governor wants to see you.
Alice : Yeah okay, I agree with Rit, Kath's got my vote.
[ Governors office ]
Anne : Yes Sister, I believe she is in the rec room feeling tired I imagine.
She won't mind you breaking up the party, yes
all right but leave the wheelchair near the security
gate, she doesn't want anyone to see her in it, thank you
sister......... How was Rita when you left her ?
Alice : Ah buggered, I think the bike was a bit much for her.
Anne : Yes , well sister will look after her, thank you Mr Adams there is no need for you to stay, oh just a minute there is a new arrival waiting in reception, look after the induction will you ?
Rodney : Yes, Mrs Renyolds.
Anne : Now to find whether the news i've got for you is good or bad.
Alice : I don't like the sound of this.
Anne : Do you want to tell her the first part ?
Harry : I've been transferred to Barnhurst, Love.
Alice : Why ? that's not fair.
Anne : I know it seems that way, but we had no choice, it was either that or Blackmoor.
Harry : Mrs Renyolds had to pull allot of strings, I mean it's better than going back to the hole isn't it ?
Alice : Yeah, it's terrific, real good, it's just you know.....
Anne : There is a possible solution if you want to hear it ? How would you feel about going to Barnhurst too ?
Alice : Are you serious ?
Anne : It's just a matter of talking to some......
Alice : No, I wasn't thinking. I can't leave Rit until, I can't leave Rit Mrs Renyolds, you understand don't you Harry ?
Anne : Yes he does, Alice. That was exactly what he said you'd do.
Harry : Don't worry, we'll be together soon enough.
Anne : No calls for ten minutes please.....The van leaves in half an hour...Harry you've got ten minutes.
Harry : For you love.
Alice : It's beautiful.
Harry : I love you, Alice.
[ Alice and Harry kiss and hug each other. ]
[ Recreation Room ]
Lisa : Ooh what are you making a big noise for now, you should have done
it when Kath called for a vote.
Brumby : Yeah, well I didn't know it was gonna turn out like this did I ?
Kath : Your not listening Brumby, I'm not changing anything, everything stops exactly as Rita set it up.
Brumby : Why ?
Kath : Because I happen to agree with it.
Lisa : Gawd you change your tune don't ya ?
Brumby : Yeah, you were the last one to escape, remember ?
Kath : And I was wrong, Merle ended up in hospital, and you and your best mate became enemies. Is that how you want to live from now on ? Isn't it hard enough in here without all of that ?
Merle : Yeah, that's what i was gonna say, and i reckon you're silly for wanting that that drugs stuff cos I hated it.
Brumby : Oh, Terrific, dopes out cos Merle can't handle it.
Kath : No one can handle it, when are you lot going to wake up to the fact that it's trouble for everyone ?
Rodney : What's trouble , Maxwell ?
Kath : Private discussion.
Lisa : And we'd like to keep it that way so shove off.
Rodney : You don't learn do you Mullins, you're on a charge.
Kath : No she isn't.
Rodney : I beg your pardon.
Kath : You're responsible for her being here Adams, so as long as she is here you leave her alone.
Rodney : Does anybody else want to go for a charge ?
Kath : You charge anyone and i'll give them a bottle, a bottle with your finger prints on it.
Rodney : Shut up.
Kath : No Adams, there are no secrets here, you place one unwarranted charge and i'll promise you, i'll set it up so you'll lose your job. Now why don't you introduce the lady and go play somewhere else. Introduce the lady !
Rodney : Her name is Helen Stevens, she's from Barnhurst.
Helen : Bloody hell. Who are you ?
Lisa : She's our new top dog, we just voted her in.
Brumby : Yeah all of us.
[ Infirmary ]
Alice : Is she all right ?
Joan : Yeah, just sleeping.
Alice : All right if i stay a minute ?
Rita : Is she gone ?
Alice : Silly bugger, you scared the life out of me.
Rita : What did Renyo want , Lurch ?
Alice : There sending Harry to Barnhurst Rit, he's gone.
Rita : Common mate, its not the end of the world, he still wants to marry you doesn't he ? Well stop feeling a big woosie. If you've got a man, you've got a man and as long as he loves you it doesn't matter where he is, it just doesn't matter, you understand ?
Alice : Anyway it's all your bloody fault, if you hadn't burnt down Blackmoor i would never have met him.
Rita : Why do you think i done it, you stupid ?
Alice : Harry said to give you this and to say happy birthday...........Rit ?
Rita : A blokes never given me flowers before, it feels good doesn't it ?
Joan : Time to go, Jenkins.
Alice : See you later.
Rita : Lurch, today has been one of the best days of my life , I want to thank you for one of the best mates i've ever had, your a big suck but i love you.
[ Joan leaves the prison through the front gate ]
Inspector : Miss Ferguson.
Joan : Inspector.
Inspector: I believe you were assigned to Conners for part of yesterday. Is that right ?
Joan : Eh, till midday yes, why ?
Inspector: And she was in the hospital all that time ?
Joan : For most part of it, earlier she was out here with jenkins and the teacher, those sorts of activities are unsupervised these days.
Inspector: When she was at the hospital did she have any visitors?
Joan : Only Jenkins.
Inspector : Yeah, we spoke to her, she said you left them alone for a while ?
Joan : I could hear their conversation through the door if that's what you mean ?
Inspector : Any money talk ?
Joan : I'm afraid not, hasn't she said anything yet ?
Inspector : Hardly , I take it you haven't heard the news. We won't be talking to Conners again, she died at two o'clock this morning. We had better go Bob. Keep your ears open and if you hear anything then call us.
[ Dining Room ]
[ Joyce Barry is crying and all of the women are crying, Joan walks in.
]
[ Laundry ]
Kath : Sorry, I decided to tell Merle.
Lisa : How did she take it ?
Kath : Oh, she's crying but she'll be all right, sometimes she can handle things allot better than we can.............Okay let's get some work done.
Brumby : Who's doing what ?
Kath : Lisa on the machine, Brumby the dryer, Alice why don't you take the press ?
Alice : Thanks, i'd like that.
Kath : Vicki folding, Ross you can ....
Vicki : Ah strewth, here we go again, Vicki on folding, Brumby on dryer. I hate bloody folding.
Brumby : Tough, anyway you've got to have some brains to work the dryer, don't ya ?
Vicki : So that leaves you out in the cold.
Kath : Day after day, nothing changes does it ?
Alice : I don't know, you got to try don't ya ?
Joan : Prison property Mcpherson, you know you're in trouble ?
Vicki : Oh, come off it, it didn't even hit the floor.
[ Joan rips the sheet ]
Joan : Really, well how did it get like that ?
Kath : It got like that cos you took it in both hands and tore it, and that's exactly what i'll tell Mrs Renyolds.
Alice : So will I.
Lisa : Me too.
Brumby : We all will.
Kath : I'm surprised you tried that Ferguson. You're finished, I thought you realised.
Joan : Just testing.
Vicky : Oh, thanks.
Kath : Don't thank me, we all did it and that's the way it stays from now on, right ?
Merle : I was crying Alice. I was crying real hard, and then I remembered she's with gentle Jesus now so I, we don't have to be sad at all do we ?
[ Alice hugs Merle ]
[ Staff Room ]
Meg : Morning.
Teacher : Morning , Miss Ferguson.
Joan : Morning, it erm, I believe it happened at 2 o'clock.
Meg : Yes.
Joan : Sad, i'm sorry to hear it. Oh i know I didn't like her but nobody deserves to go like that. Especially not in a place like this. I hope someone was with her when she........I hope she wasn't alone.
Teacher : Sister Hall was called in, wasn't she Meg ?
