|Bill & Julia's Water Garden|
Hi and welcome to our water garden page. I decide to create a website for others to come and visit and see what our water garden looks like and how it was created. The idea first came from my wife Julia, after we bought our home in the summer of 1999, she had always wanted to have a water garden and we talked about what we liked and where we would place it if we ever decided to put one in.
Julia is a Professor of Horticulture at OSU-OKC, and I work for the FAA as a computer infromation specialist (aka.computer geek). Julia designed all the landscaping and planted all the flowers. I did all the building. This was the first time I have ever build a water garden and had no ideal on how to even begin to start. What I hope to accomplish with this page is to show others the steps that we went through to create our water garden. This site like our water garden is a work in progress and will be added to as we do new things.
The first thing, is to decide exactly what you want in your garden, are you going to just have plants or are you going to include fish. How large are you going to make it, where are you going to place it. How much time are you willing to spend on keeping up your water garden. How much are you going to spend. All these things must be thought of before you begin.
We spent about a week looking at different magazines, books and
talking with our local garden centers. Most areas have at least one water garden store and
they can give you all sorts of information on what maybe the best type of garden for your
needs. There are two basic types of water gardens, there is the preformed type and
the liner type. Both have there good points and bad points. Once you have decided on
what you want, it is time to start building.
Thank you for taking the time to stop buy and looking at our site if you have any questions or comments you can e-mail us or make a comment in the guest book below.
