This creation of Phillips H. Lord was the first nationally broadcast true crime show (Calling All Cars came two years earlier, but was restricted to the West Coast). Unlike many true crime shows, there was no recurring character heading the investigation (I believe they didn't even bother to change the names of the persons involved). The show ran 1935-1957. During the first few months, it went under the title G-Men and dramatized the careers of nationally notorious criminals like Machine Gun Kelly and Dutch Schultz. Afterwards, it featured crimes and criminals that weren't so well known.
