Six Run Inning Pulls Giants Into Wild Card Tie

An offensive explosion in the fourth inning of today's game along with a Chicago Cubs loss to the Cincinatti Reds help the Giants pull into a tie for the NL Wild Card lead. Jason Schmidt pitched another good game, and the bullpen was able to hang on for the win, with Dustin Hermanson getting the save.

Giants Will Host Any One-Game Playoffs
The Giants won all coin flips regarding any ties at the end of the season between Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, or any other team. Thusly, any one-game playoff involving the Giants will happen at SBC Park.

Giants Pushed Towards Wild Card

The San Francisco Giants were dealt a big blow this weekend by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who took 2 out of 3 games at SBC Park to push the Giants 2 1/2 games back in the NL West race. The Chicago Cubs, meanwhile, lost again to the spoilers of the weekend, the New York Mets, and remain a half-game ahead of the Giants in the NL Wild Card race.

Feliz So Good

In one of the best games of the year so far, 3B Pedro Feliz shined for the Giants, hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 5-5 tie and give the Giants one of the biggest wins of the year, a back-and-forth 9-5 contest with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Houston Dirty Ball Comes Through

The Houston Astros pulled out a win off closer Dustin Hermanson, rallying for five-runs in the ninth inning to capture what could be seen as a season-saving victory. The Giants wasted another dominant start by Cy Young candidate Jason Schmidt, who allowed two runs in 7+ innings.

Giants rookie pitcher Noah Lowry remained perfect on the year, and the San Francisco Giants downed the Houston Astros 5 - 1.

Giants Exercise Bonds' 2006 Option

The San Francisco Giants have exercised their 2006 option on the contract of LF Barry Bonds. Bonds, who just hit his 700th home run last Friday, will remain with the Giants for at least two more years as he tries to bring a world championship to San Francisco. "This is where I want to end my career. It was important to Willie and myself. It was very important to my father for me to end my career in San Francisco. This is where I want to be," Bonds said.

Cubs Split Doubleheader; Remain 1/2 Game Back

The Chicago Cubs went to Florida and played a makeup doubleheader against the Marlins. These two wildcard contenders split this doubleheader and the Cubs remain a 1/2 game back of the Giants.

Back for the Stretch Run

After taking an extended break, Dreamin at Pac Bell is back for the stretch run as the San Francisco Giants attempt to make the playoffs for a third straight year. They currently lead the NL Wildcard race by a half game over the Chicago Cubs, and are scheduled to take on the Houston Astros in a critical three-game series between wildcard contenders.
