THE GRAY #23 SERIES HAVE A FOLD DOWN FRONT FOR SERVICING AND AN OVERSIZED COIN VAULT.  LEFT IS A #23J WITH HAND SET.  CENTER IS A  #23D WITH SEPARATE TRANS- MITTER AND RECEIVER.  RIGHT IS A MODEL #23, THIS COLLECTOR IS MADE TO GO ON THE FRONT OF A WOOD WALL PHONE.  IT HAS A SHORTER CASH DRAWER THAN THE OTHERS.
GRAY #24 PORTABLE COIN COLLECTOR, NICK NAMED THE "WANAMAKER PHONE" SINCE THEY WERE SEEN IN THE WANAMAKER DEPARTMENT STORES.

THE GRAY COMPANY HELD MOST OF THE PATENTS FOR COIN COLLECTORS AND PAYPHONES INCLUDING USING GRAVITY AS A MEANS TO CARRY THE COINS TO BELLS AND GONGS TO MAKE THE SOUNDS OR COIN SIGNALS THE OPERATOR HEARD.  THEREFORE MOST OF WHAT WE HAVE WAS MADE BY GRAY.

LEFT, WESTERN ELECTRIC #7 COIN COLLECTOR.  IT ONLY TAKES NICKELS.  WHEN THE COIN IS DEPOSITED IT MAKES THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION, ONCE THE CALL IS TERMINATED THE COIN DROPS TO DISCONNECT THE LINE.

RIGHT, WESTERN ELECTRIC #13 COIN COLLECTOR, PUT A NICKEL, DIME OR QUARTER IN THE SINGLE SLOT AND PULL THE ARM.   THAT STARTS THE MOTOR RUNNING TO MAKE THE DISTINCTIVE SOUNDS THE OPERATOR CAN HEAR.  1 BELL FOR NICKEL, 2 BELLS FOR DIME AND 3 BELLS FOR QUARTER.
