This site is dedicated to visual anthropology, a scientific and humanistic
method of ethnographic investigation. This method of research employs the
visual media to observe, record, interpret, and translate the human
experience in a manner that is interesting, informative, relevant, and
applicable. The visual media--still photography, video, and other visual
expressions--are also the subjects of investigation, as they inform our
perceptions of the world.
My interests in this field include the visual examination of cultural
constructions based on religion, the manner in which visual symbols inform
individual and collective identity, and the study of how images collude with
textual information to create culture.
