This is my page of interesting information. As I continue my studies of...well, everything, really...I pick up interesting facts here and there that I will share on this page. May you discover the joy that knowledge can bring.

In the original language of the Bible, Hebrew, the word for Holy Spirit is ruach ha-kodesh, which is a feminine term. This suggests that the Holy Spirit is the female aspect of deity that has been so vehemently been denied by Christianity.

The phrase is not "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." The actual quote is, "Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned," and can be found in Act III, Scene 8 of William Congreve's The Mourning Bride.

Gertrude Stein did not write, "A rose is a rose is a rose is a rose..." What she wrote was "Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose..." comparing a girl named Rose to the flower.

S.O.S. doesn't stand for "Save Our Ship" or "Save Our Souls" -- It was just chosen by an 1908 international conference on Morse Code because the letters S and O were easy to remember and just about anyone could key it and read it, S = dot dot dot, O = dash dash dash..

The sentence "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." uses every letter in the alphabet. (Developed by Western Union to Test telex/twx communications)

Purely food for thought: When we pretend to eat each other, it is a sign of affection. For example, parents pretend to "eat" their children's noses. Sweethearts "nibble" on each other's ears. From this knowledge, the theory has been formed by some that the reason killers like Jeffrey Dahmer eat their victims is based on a deep affection.  They see their victims as so beautiful that they want to keep them forever, and this is accomplished by eating the victims and making them forever a part of themselves. This does not extend to Hannibal Lecktor. The theory behind his cannibalism is that he eats them to make them beautiful. He only eats those for whom he holds no respect. He sees food as beautiful, and therefore to improve those he perceives as ugly or lacking in substance, he eats them.

The reason firehouses have circular stairways is from the days of lore when the engines were pulled by horses. The horses were stabled on the ground floor and figured out how to walk up straight staircases.

Most people use the word 'heathen' incorrectly. The common usage is when referring to unruly behavior. Another common use of the word is when referring to a non-Christian, much like the word 'gentile' used in the Bible. Both of these are inaccurate uses! The term 'heathen', when properly used, refers to someone who worships the Gods and Goddesses of the ancient Northern European cultures. To refer to every non-Christian as 'heathen' is grossly inaccurate, as many non-Christians have nothing to do with the Norse Religion at all. It's the same as saying that all Christians are Baptists, which we all know is untrue. If the word is used in it's literal context, a 'heathen' is no more than a person who lives on the heath or the moor.

The word 'pagan' is another one of those words that is very commonly misused. When I was growing up, I was always taught that 'pagan' was just another word for 'devil worshipper' or something similar. I have discovered that this is what most people associate with the word. It is also sometimes used interchangeably with 'heathen'. Both are misconceptions!  The word actually refers to a person who practices one of the many earth-based religions. In all reality, most pagans do not believe in satan. The concept of an ultimate evil does not exist in most Pagan religions, at all, and there are many Pagans who are not Heathen. To really simplify the concept, think of it this way: All Methodists are Christian, but not all Christians are Methodist. All Heathens are Pagan, but not all Pagans are Heathen.

Generally speaking Anorexic people are not that way because they think that they are fat. The majority of the time, the motivation behind the disorder is the feeling of a lack of control to an extreme measure. "Ana"s don't feel they have any control in their lives, and the one thing they can control is their intake of food. Their weight and body size is secondary, and is only a testament to the amount of control they now have. To most anorexics, "Ana" is not a disorder so much as it is a lifestyle that they have conscientiously chosen to lead.

A donkey is an "ass", but an ass is not always a donkey. The word "ass" refers to several hoofed mammals of the genus Equus, including the Onager.

Kwanzaa, the holiday celebrated around Christmas time by many African Americans, is not a generations old tradition. It was created in 1966 by a professor of Black Studies, Dr. Maulanga Karenga, at the California State University, Long Beach. Dr. Karenga created Kwanzaa as a reaffirmation, restoration, and expression of African culture. Kwanzaa is not a religious holiday, but a cultural one, therefore is available to Africans of all religious faiths.
