| What's it about? |
| When we first meet the Carey children, they are packing for their new home in a little house in Boston. Nancy Carey receives mail and seems quite excited by whats in it. A little while later, some men come to take their piano, much to Gilley Carey, Nancy's brother's, horror. They aren't upset for much longer when they've discovered their mother has sold their piano, with a swap. The swap being an organ. While the children are singing a song their mother returns with news that they can't afford to move into the little house. Nancy, delighted, suggests they move into a large yellow house they'd seen on a vacation when their father was still with them, and shows the letter she'd received earlier before. Shortly after the Carey's move into the 'Yellow House,' the youngest Carey, Peter, agrees to take care of somebody's dog for a 25 cents a week. Nancy and her mother are horrified, especially when they learn he didn't get paid, but in the end there was nothing they could do about it, so Peter now had a dog. After the arrival of the dog, Mrs Carey receives a telegram to tell her that Julia, her neice, was coming to stay with her. Nancy and Gilley are mortified when they hear this, their prissy stuck up cousin coming to live with them? This leads to another song, Pink of Perfection, where they make fun of Julia. Unfortunately, when Peter hears this, he thinks that its all true and asks Julia about it on her arrival. Julia and Nancy have a very tense relationship which is stretched when they meet the new teacher, Charles Bryant. The girls fight over him during a game of croquet, but Nancy ends up finishing the game alone, with Julia acting dumb to impress Charles. Later that night, Nancy is picking up after Julia, when Julia walks in attaching Charles's golden football to her necklace. The two have a fight, which in the end, helps them become very close. By now, plans are underway to hold a house warming party and in honour to Tom Hamilton, the owner of the Yellow House, they are holding a ceremony to show a picture of his mother as he wanted. Unknown to Nancy, her mysterious new date is Tom Hamilton, was the owner of the Yellow House and had no idea who they were or why they were there. It appears that Osh Poppum wasn't completely truthful when he told them abou Tom. I have already told you most of the movie, but I left out the funny parts, I give this movie a 10 out of 10. It's funny and has a great soundtrack and story line. Check out the lovely Tom Hamilton, he's not too bad for a 60s movie star!!! |
