Esmeralda
Voice: Demi Moore (speaking) Heidi Mollenhaur (singing)
Supervising Animator: Tony Fucile
The greatest heroine to ever come off of Disney's drawing boards! Need I say more? Well even if I don't need to say more, I will, because I love talking about her! It's no wonder why three guys fall head-over-heals in love with her. She's smart, funny, clever, kind, brave, feisty, compassionate, energetic, mysterious, and she really knows how to take on soldiers!

I love her deep raspy voice: you can get tired of one bell-toned Disney heroine after another. She sounds a tad more mature than your average Disney girl, and Demi Moore's delivery tells you that Esmeralda is a character who thinks about things. And you've just gotta love the way she sings! Not Demi Moore, but Hedi does a wonderful and powerful delivery of Esmeralda's humble prayer.Tony Fucile draws her perfectly. I love everything about her design, from the large green eyes to the bare feet.

Esmeralda has an unusual story for a Disney heroine. She's no princess, nor does she wish to be one. In fact, she lives underground to hide away from soldiers, and she has to dance to earn a living. Yet even with what little she has, she makes use of it. She's the first person to be kind to Quasimodo, and the first to recognize his talents ("You're a surprising person, Quasimodo."). She's also determined to do what she can to help people, and frustrated with the terrible situation the world is in. Haven't we all felt like that? And along with her determination, she also has quite a temper, and a quick humorous wit. Like most Disney heroes and heroines, she has an animal sidekick by her side. Unlike most Disney heroes and heroines, her sidekick wasn't created by Disney, but was actually from the original book. And what a sidekick Djali is! It's not every goat who can dance, butt people, and swiftly climb ladders!

You rule, Esmeralda!
Now you see her, now you don't!
